No Degree? No Problem! How to Find a Legit Job Without a College Degree

You've heard it before: a college degree is the key to a brighter future. But if you don't have one, and you're worried about your job prospects, here's some good news: there are plenty of jobs available to people who didn't finish college. In fact, many of them don't even require a high school diploma! Take heart—you can find work if you're willing to put in the effort.

Take a look at these helpful tips for finding a legit job without a college degree:

You can start at the entry level

Your first step is to focus on finding a job that doesn't require a degree. Even if you hold a degree, you can still get an entry-level job and work your way up from there.

"Entry level" jobs are often low-paying and don't come with the same perks as higher-paid positions, but they're better than nothing at all! You may need to accept a pay cut or work for free for a bit until you have enough experience under your belt for the higher paying jobs to start coming in.

Prove your worth with certifications and training

Certifications are a great way to stand out from other applicants. They can also be a good way to learn about a new industry, or even just a new technology that you want to be able to use in your current job. Many certifications are earned online, and many others can be earned on the job.

This is an easy way you can prove your worth as an employee without having gone to college—and it'll help you get hired faster than if you don't have any training or education at all!

Never stop learning and networking

  • Keep your education going by taking classes and continuing to learn new things.

  • If you already have a degree, keep learning—there are always new skills to acquire, and being able to adapt is important in any job.

  • Networking is also an important part of job hunting. Try contacting people who work in fields similar to yours and ask for advice or informational interviews (Google it). You might even find a mentor!

  • Remember that there are many other ways of finding jobs besides applying online; don't limit yourself!

Even without a college degree, you're not out of options

Even though you may not have a college degree to show for your hard work, there are still many ways to learn new skills that will help you land an entry-level job. You can take free online courses from top universities like Harvard and Stanford, participate in coding bootcamps or apprenticeships and even find jobs where the employer doesn't require a bachelor's degree. So what are some of these options?

  • Take free online courses from top universities like Harvard and Stanford (and more!)

  • Participate in coding bootcamps or apprenticeships

  • Find jobs where the employer doesn't require a bachelor's degree

While it may be tempting to think of a college degree as the only path toward success, that’s not true. While there are certainly times when having an advanced degree is necessary for certain jobs, many jobs require only a high school diploma or equivalent and some experience. And even if there aren’t any openings at your current company for what you want to do, there are plenty of other opportunities out there waiting for someone like you!
