In the world of office jobs, there are few things more stressful than being stuck in a position you don’t like. Whether it’s because you lack the necessary experience or education to get promoted, or maybe there aren’t any opportunities within your company for advancement – whatever the reason may be, it’s important to note when you should start considering other options. In this article, we'll discuss five signs that indicate it's time to quit your office job:
You know what you want to do, but you're stuck
You're working a 9-to-5 job that doesn't pay well or offer enough opportunities for advancement. You've always dreamed of starting your own business but haven't taken the steps toward making it happen yet. You want more freedom and flexibility in your life, but don't know how to make that happen either.
If this sounds familiar, then congratulations: Your office job may not be right for you anymore! But quitting isn't necessarily the only solution here--you can work on setting up your business while still employed at another company (or several). In fact, some people find they get more done when they have two sources of income coming into their bank account every month instead of just one.
You hate your commute
The time you spend commuting is not productive. In fact, it's often filled with stress and frustration as you sit in traffic or on public transportation. You could be using that time to work on your business or other goals instead of spending it stuck in traffic or waiting for a bus that never comes.
If the benefits of this job (and they do exist) aren't enough for you to tolerate a miserable commute each day, then maybe there are other options out there where neither one will be necessary!
You work with people who don't respect you
Disrespectful behavior can be subtle or obvious. The former is easier to ignore but often just as damaging--and eventually leads to a toxic relationship with your boss or colleagues. For example, if someone constantly criticizes your work and never offers any praise for good ideas or hard work, this is an indicator that they don't respect you. You may also notice that when someone treats others poorly (e.g., by making fun of them), they don't hold themselves to higher standards either.
You're not getting the results you want at work
If you find yourself in a position where you are not getting the results that you want or feel like your work is not appreciated, it may be time for a change. If this sounds familiar, then it's probably time for a fresh start at another company.
Your priorities have changed and your job isn't helping move them forward
You want to make a bigger impact on the world. If you have always wanted to work in non-profit or social services but can't get out of your office job because of financial reasons, then now is the time for change! If this is something that will bring joy into your life, then go for it! You won't regret quitting an unfulfilling job in order to pursue something else that makes sense for who YOU are right now in this moment (and not just what others think).
If you can relate to these signs, it may be time to quit your office job. You want more control over your schedule. Working from home is one of the best things about working for yourself-you can set your own hours, take days off when you need them, and even take your laptop on vacation if that's what makes sense for you.
