Why You Should Have a Dedicated Working Space as a Work From Home Parent

If you're a work-from-home parent, then you know how hard it is to find time for yourself and your work. Between caring for your kids, doing errands around town, and keeping up with housework, it can be difficult to carve out some time in your day just for yourself. This is especially true if you are a stay-at-home mom who doesn't have access to an office or other dedicated space for working from home. But having a dedicated space for working from home—even if it's just one room in your house or apartment—can make all the difference between feeling overwhelmed by everything going on and feeling like you actually have control over your life again.

Here are some reasons why creating this space is so important:

You're building an environment for your work to thrive

The importance of having a dedicated working space for your work is crucial. It's the first step toward building an environment where your business can thrive, and it's important to consider what you need from that space before moving forward with any other decisions.

First, think about how you want to use this room--and then make sure that everything within it will help you achieve those goals. For example: if one of the main reasons for having this room is so that clients can come over and meet with me face-to-face (which they do), then I need to have comfortable chairs and tables where we can sit comfortably without feeling cramped or crowded together. Also consider whether or not lighting will be sufficient enough for meetings as well; if not, try adding some task lamps around the perimeter of each table instead so everyone stays well-lit during conversation times!

It's a place for you to get away from housework and childcare and focus on your work

You don't want to be on your phone or laptop while your kids are playing. If you're constantly checking the time and jumping up every few minutes to put away toys, it will be impossible for you to focus on work. Plus, if they see that as an acceptable behavior from their parent (i.e., being distracted), they'll start doing it too!

You need a place where you can get away from housework for an hour or two each day so that when the kids come into this space with me, we can all focus on each other and have fun together as a family unit instead of just two separate entities doing our own thing in separate rooms throughout most of their waking hours (and mine).

You're not just a "stay-at-home mom," you're also a "working mom"

You're not just a "stay-at-home mom," you're also a "working mom." Your work is important and you need to be able to focus on it. Your kids are learning about the value of time, so they need your undivided attention when they come home from school or daycare. You can't do that if you're distracted by other things in the house or on your computer screen (or phone).

Dedicated working space is critical for work-from-home parents

To be successful as a work-from-home parent, you need to have a dedicated working space that is separate from your family space. This is critical for several reasons:

  • You need a place where you can focus on work without being distracted by other things going on in your home. The last thing you want is for one of your kids to come into the room and ask if they can play with their toys or watch TV while you're trying to get something done!

  • Your workspace should be free of clutter and distractions so that there's no chance of getting distracted by anything else around it (like toys lying around).

  • It needs to be comfortable enough so that when it comes time for working on those long projects or doing research as part of your job description, then this will actually feel inviting rather than overwhelming or even just plain boring!

  • Finally -and most importantly--your dedicated working area needs organization! This means having everything stored away neatly where it belongs so nothing gets lost under piles of family mess.

Working from home can be a great option for parents who want to balance work and family. But it's important to remember that you're not just a "stay-at-home mom"--you're also a "working mom." Having a dedicated working space will allow you to focus on your work without being distracted by other responsibilities, so that you can make the most of this opportunity to earn an income while caring for your family.
